What can you gain from martial art training?

Ken Ring, owner and chief instructor at Kuk Sool Won of Muncie

For the past few years, whenever someone applies to the school, I have asked them what they hope to gain from martial art training. The responses fall into four basic categories. Here are some of their responses:

    Physical

    • Strength
    • Balance
    • Coordination
    • Improved Stamina

    Mental

    • Focus
    • Mental Clarity
    • Peace of Mind
    • Knowledge

    Character

    • Discipline
    • Self-Control
    • Respect
    • Confidence
    • Philosophy
    • Self-Discipline

    Fun

    • Connect with the Community
    • Spend Time with my Kids

And, perhaps my favorite response:

  • Learn Legendary Skills

No promises on your status as a Legend

While I can’t promise that your skills will be legendary, I can promise, with time and practice, you’ll have a shot at everything else on that list.

Ken Ring is an incredibly hard worker, with his students’ progress being his first priority. He’s approachable, inventive, respectable, and a great teacher for both children and adults. He’s made a terrific impact on my son’s character and has encouraged and challenged my son as well as myself in several areas where now I can […]
